From a young age, Nelly Van Wauwe was fascinated by paintings. The dream to paint herself was kept hidden for a long time, and her creativity was expressed by drawing figures and painting theater decors. During the last years of her professional career, which had part in fashion and creation, she took up painting. After her retirement she joined painting classes in the Academy of Hamme.
Countryside and nature are mostly the starting point, and she tries to translate these impressions into colour on canvas. From a more figurative style she developed to abstract.
People fascinates her in all their diversity, that’s why Nelly also does portraits.
