JAKUB SŁOMKOWSKI (painter, performer, musician) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (2007). As a scholarship holder of the Erasmus Programme he studied in the fine arts department at the Complutense University of Madrid (2004-2005).
He uses various tools and media. Apart from painting he is interested in sound and performance. He reflects upon the meanings of abundant messages depending on the medium and visual imagination, posing a question to what extent do the image and pure human activity reach the audience.
The first prize winner in the competition concerning the logo representing celebrations of Zbigniew Herbert Year (2008). The third prize winner in the Samsung Art Master contest presenting a work titled Program Music Box (2009).
Jakub Słomkowski has been using sound in most of his activities ever since, among others in street performances such as:
• Braki w Gsie: opening “Letni Nieletni” exhibition, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2010)
• Taxi Music Wheel: Bat Yam Street Festival, Israel (2011), a musical taxi driven by Jakub, in which he was creating music together with Tel Aviv citizens
• Styx: “Konteksty” festival, Sokołowsko Laboratorium Kultury (2012)
• The death of Jane McCrea: Saatchi Gallery, London (2013)
• Sixty Minute Złodziej (Sixty Minute Thief): Performance Day, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw (2014)
Since 2010 he has been cooperating closely with a choreographer Iza Szostak, composing music for her performances: Karmi Go, The Glass Jar Next To The Glass Jar, Remix Merce Cunningham, Ciało Dziecko Obiekt (Body Child Object), Balet Koparyczny (Digger Ballet). Słomkowski prepared dozens of projects cooperating with such curators as: Antoni Burzyński, Sacha Craddock, Marta Czyż, Karina Dzieweczyńska, Boguś Deptuła, Klara Kopcińska, Anna Królica, Mariusz Wilczyński.
He is a member of Nie z Tej Bajki Association, which is placed in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and a cofounder of Parque-no artistic group. He is a creator and organiser of Kolacja na Hucie event (Dinner at Smelter), organized since 2007. Co-founder (with Jakub Dykiert) of KUBATWICEIMPROVISE band and Loikuba performative duo.
Participant of festivals: Malta, Ciało Umysł, Kalejdoskop, Konteksty, Survival, Audio Art.
He also performed in Warsaw theaters: Dramatyczny, Studio, Powszechny and in Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz.
Partcipant in the exhibition “PRZYPŁYW/młoda polska sztuka współczesna” (“FLOW/ young Polish contemporary art”) in Wroclaw (European Capital of Culture 2016).
In 2017, he became a laureate of “Art Walk Open Call 2017” competition and he was one of the finalists in “Bielska Jesień 2017” competition.
